Renewing your backyard excitement
A custom pool is like your home – it needs periodic renovations to keep it looking its best. With a little investment you’ll be amazed at how your enjoyment level increases – both in your pool’s fresh look and for its ease of operation. Pool technology has come a long way in the last decade, with amazing water features and automated sanitation, cleaning, and control systems that minimize maintenance.
Remodeling is generally a complete pool make-over. It can often entail structural changes such as altering the pool shape, adding stairs, spas, and sunning ledges or replacing the patio materials. If you thought your pool could be more exciting, then be assured your wish is possible. When finished, you won’t believe it’s not a new pool. In fact, with a Gib-San pool and landscape remodel, you will be amazed at just how amazing your backyard can be!
At Gib-San we plan the total environment. We provide you with one source design and landscaping for remodeling your whole backyard resort. Gib-San’s integrated approach is what makes it work – the pool and surroundings are designed to work together for a more exciting backyard than you’ve ever imagined.
Custom concrete pool remodeling
One advantage of the custom concrete pool is you have more options available to you - even structural changes. New shapes, integrated spas, waterfalls, rock formations, patio decking and cantilevered coping can all be added to create a whole new dimension to your pool, yard, and patio. This type of investment increases the appeal as well as the equity of your home.
Start with a plan that captures your dream resort. In that way, it’s like building a pool from scratch, but you will be using the efficiency of the base pool structure. Your remodeled pool will look and operate just like new.
Modernizing a pool will simplify its operation too. Upgrading makes sense, not only for aesthetics but for the functionality of a sound pool structure. New filtration and sanitizing systems, automatic covers and even in-floor cleaner systems are only a few of the many options with a pool remodel. Combine these with a programmable control system and you’ll be amazed at how pool maintenance is minimized and operation so much more energy efficient.

Custom vinyl lined pool renovation

Adding WOW to a 27-year-old vinyl lined pool! “It’s like a new pool!”
While the basic shape of the pool didn’t change the appearance sure did. Talk about elevating it to a new class of pool! In addition to replacing the liner with a new pattern, the biggest change came from the stonework on the deck and creation of a stone wall with three sheer descent waterfalls. Gone is the brushed concrete that surrounds so many pools of the 1980s. While this concrete was functional it lacked character and looked tired. The irregular cut stones of the new deck overhang the pool edge giving it the appearance of a more expensive concrete pool. The deck area was expanded by being creative with landscaping, insetting the deck lounges into the garden area surrounded by plantings. It not only looks better, but people can pass in front of them without almost falling into the water.
“My wife loves the steps the most. We have less worry with the grandkids crowding each other off the ladder. It is easier for them and us to get in and out, and they love to play on these big semi-circular steps, especially since the youngest can’t quite touch bottom. Adults like them also, to sun on while playing with the children.
“Personally, I love the overall stone look and the sound of water from the waterfalls that drowns out the sound of traffic and neighbours." |

No back-washing is required on the Jandy cartridge filter. It only requires one or two seasonal washings of the cartridges, depending on the amount of debris. Also the water is clearer since a cartridge system filters much finer than sand. (Filter by Jandy)
Behind-the-scenes description and benefits:
- Pool walls are insulated to minimize heat loss. The walls are soft to the touch as well.
- Pump low-speed setting is so quiet you hardly know the pump is running. It is run in that mode all the time except when vacuuming the pool. (Pump by Jandy)
- Power consumption at low speed is a fraction of a one-speed pump.

-
Multi-colour LED mood lighting. This is a nice added feature as we didn’t have a pool light before.
- The heater is much faster than the old heater and more energy efficient.
- Remote control system. Most functions can be turned on and off remotely by a water-proof handheld controller. (Heater by Jandy)
- Steps (by Kafco) are an engineering marvel for vinyl liner pools. They are sturdy and even have small bumps on the stepping surface for added grip.
- The liner (by Fox) fit perfectly around the curved steps and was not slippery to step on. A small pattern without a border was selected for its simplicity. It really makes the water sparkle and dirt on the bottom does not show as much.
Renovation process

“The stone work was the most time consuming aspect of the renovation. This truly is the work of artisans – the cutting and piecing together of irregular shapes and colours that become a patchwork frame to the pool. The process was dusty, but the result is fantastic."
All plumbing and electrical lines were checked and new ones added as required. The new steps fit into the curve at the end of the pool and the liner made to order. Prior to its installation, the vertical walls were covered with insulation to minimize heat loss. The line installation was done late in the season after the first snow fall as can be seen in the picture.
Gib-San has perfected winter installations by tenting and heating the pool workplace. The installation of the liner went flawlessly. The safety cover was installed on the pool to protect it for winter, and the final startup was done in the spring with lots of time for the summer season.

“New easy-entry steps replaced the ladder"

Finishing touches
“The finished effect is fabulous with perimeter landscaping using river rock and boulders to tie-in with the deck stonework. Colourful planters on top of the wall with the waterfalls became an even more impressive focal point. When new guests first see it we always get WOWs! Kudos to Gib-San!”
