Welcome to the Gib-San SPLASH Newsletter! We publish SPLASH to keep you informed of the latest backyard resort products and services. We are proud of our company and would also like to share events related to our continuous pursuit of professional development and quality workmanship both at Gib-San and in the industry.

Beating the tax increase rush - According to Ed Gibbs, President of Gib-San Pools, next spring could be exceptionally busy as people order early to avoid paying an added 8% provincial tax due to the Ontario government's tax harmonization that comes next July. An increase in pool commitments is already expected from pent-up demand by people who held back during the recession. With signs this is over, consumers are ready to proceed. In addition, homeowners are taking advantage of the Home Renovation Tax Credit program this fall on renovation purchases until the end of February, 2010. This program allows for up to $1350 (13% of purchases up to $9000) on applicable hot tubs, new pools or renovations. The design plan needs to start this fall to get into the production schedule and complete the work in time. Call our Design Consultants for details and scheduling opportunities.

Design brings backyards alive - In addition to being a landscape designer, Jay Middleton, Gib-San head designer, is a Ryerson art graduate, which brings added flair to his designs. Jay creates exciting action in backyards with water media. He considers the overall backyard with the pool as the focal point to be enjoyed as much from a distance, even inside, as from within the pool itself. The outdoor kitchen is placed for convenience of service as well as for view of the pool. Waterfalls, shooting water plumes or magical laminar water streams add sparkle and music to provide entertainment. A hot tub overflowing into the pool or nestled into a quiet garden setting or positioned for easy year-round access are all options considered. Landscaping is personalized to the client's setting and tastes, from rugged natural boulders to colourful gardens, a pond, and trees to provide both beauty and privacy. All designed as one artistic masterpiece.

Memories of backyard vacations - Every time a recession hits, investments around the home increase because we spend more time there. And that's good, because we rediscover that family times are the best times and having a fun backyard pays off. You can say you really do know where your kids are because they are in your pool! And you do know they are having a good time because you have captured hours of laughter on your home videos. We can help you create a backyard vacation spot that suits your budget with either a vinyl-lined or custom concrete pool. We can even design it so it can be done in phases - the pool and deck, added water features, and landscaping.

Bringing the world of experience to Toronto - Greater Toronto is our primary market and we are proud of it. Our "outside world" connections though have been a major contributor to our success here. Our experiences in building pools in distant places from the Caribbean to across Canada expose us to new ideas and hone our project management skills. Our membership in the Master Pools Guild, a global network of over 100 elite custom pool builders, provides us with a resource unlike any other - sharing creative ideas, production techniques and technology in our pursuit of building the world's finest pools.

Total Care Pool Maintenance Program makes pool ownership easy - Gib-San believes pool maintenance should be kept simple. That is why we created the all-encompassing Total Care Pool Maintenance Program. This ensures maximum enjoyment throughout the summer months by simplifying the process of pool opening, weekly maintenance, balancing of water chemistry, and pool closing. Each Total Care contract is customized for your pool to ensure you receive the services you require. All you have to do is put out the towels and relax!

Renovation and Remodelling - We remodel our homes every few years to keep up with design trends so why not the pool which is one of your main living areas? Steps for easier entry can be added. New tile, coping, patio decking and energy efficient equipment are obvious enhancements. But a cabana with a fireplace, a hot tub that overflows into the pool or waterfall will make it truly special. Visit our Creation Centre to see hundreds of pictures for ideas and a variety of water features on our vinyl-lined and concrete demonstration pools. At Gib-San we make it easy to change with the styles because Gib-San does it all - from design to landscaping!

Quiet pumps - Are you (or your neighbour) conscious of the noise from your pool pump? Too often one-speed pumps are operating 24/7. With today's technology most pools can be operated more efficiently with a variable-speed or two-speed pump that can be so quiet you will wonder if they are working. The high speed is activated only during cleaning or when water features such as waterfalls require high water flow. You will save significantly on power by operating at lower speeds.

Safety Cover - for peace of mind and looks!
While you won't likely have an elephant in your backyard, it is nice to know that the Loop Loc winter safety cover will definitely support a large dog or child in the event they venture into the pool area. In addition to peace of mind, these safety covers look much better than the old winter covers, full of stagnant water and mushy leaves and surrounded with leaking water bags. Call today and close your pool the smart and smart-looking way this year.

This is evident in their quality and model features that meet every level of backyard chefs' needs. The patented "Wave" heavy-duty stainless-steel rod cooking system and self-cleaning sear-plates that reduce flare-ups make grilling easier. Enjoy cooking with up to seven different cooking styles depending on the model you choose. Let us show you the features available.

Napoleon Cooking Styles available:

  1. Direct cooking - cooking food directly above the flame "grilling" style for searing steaks, other meats or vegetables.
  2. Indirect cooking - cooking food oven-style to the side of lit burners, with little need to turn the food.
  3. Rotisserie cooking - cooking on models with a rear infrared
    rotisseries burner.
  4. Infrared bottom-burner cooking - for the perfect steak, using intense 1800° heat that instantly sears the meat, locking in the juices.
  5. Convection style cooking - under the grill hood, this is similar to the indirect cooking method.
  6. Smoking - by placing wet wood chips into a smoker-tube and then over the left burner while cooking on the right unlit burner.
  7. Charcoal cooking - using their unique Napoleon charcoal tray.

Try this Napoleon BBQ Recipe:
Oriental Chicken Brochettes
With Mango & Pineapple

4 boneless chicken, cut into 2inch cubes
1 mango, peeled & cubed
1 cup (240 ml) pineapple, peeled & cubed
6 bamboo or metal skewers
salt & pepper to taste
2 tbsp (30 ml) sesame seeds
1/4 cup (60 ml) Hoisin sauce

Marinade
1 cup (240 ml) soy sauce
1/2 cup (120 ml) honey
1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
1/4 cup (60ml) molasses
1/4 cup (60ml) brown sugar
1/4 cup (60ml) medium dry sherry
2 tbsp (30ml) sesame oil
4 tsp (20ml) garlic, chopped
2 tsp (10ml) fresh ginger, chopped
In a medium bowl, combine marinade ingredients. Mix well. Add cubed chicken and marinate refrigerated for 2 hours. Remove chicken from marinade. Reserve half the marinade for basting chicken while it cooks. Pour remaining marinade into a small saucepan and bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until thickened. Set aside. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Thread chicken cubes onto skewers, alternating with mango and pineapple. Season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low. Lightly oil grid. Place kebabs on grid, close lid, and cook, turning and basting occasionally, for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve with reheated sauce.
