We are proud of our company and would like to share the latest developments at Gib‑San in our ongoing pursuit of quality and professional personnel development.
OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety registration - Gib-San Pools is the first pool company in the world to have achieved this certification. This comes less than a year after Gib-San became the first pool company in the world to achieve ISO9001:2000 certification. OHSAS 18001 covers all aspects of occupational health and safety management. It ensures that systems and controls are in place to manage our workplaces so they are safe for our staff, customers and the public.
Gib-San designs pool for Middle East tower - Gib-San is designing a pool on the 68th floor of The Landmark building in Abu Dhabi U.A.E., where more than 53 stories are reserved for residential apartments. The pool and spa are located in the Sky Garden at the top, which is enclosed in a glazed atrium of glass-wall screens "oversailing" the floor by 56 metres. "Spectacular is all I can say about the setting," said Ed Gibbs. "There is no doubt our ISO certification played a significant role in our getting this project."
One King St. West – This prestigious address is where the Gib-San crew built a custom spa complex for the 51-storey condominium tower. The building base is a testimonial of incredible restoration work – from the limestone and marble bank lobby into the elegant Dominion Club with a basement bank vault-cum-sports bar.
St. Maarten island paradise is getting a Gib-San mega-pool – The Gib-San "SWAT" pool building team visited the beautiful island of St. Maarten to build a 5000 square foot custom residential pool. The pool will include a vanishing edge that blends with the azure Caribbean sea, a beach entry, two spas, one children’s pool with deck jet-water features, a grotto behind a waterfall, a meandering waterfall that naturally flows into the pool and two island planters that appear to float in the pool.

Gib-San's Second Expo
Once again, architects, designers, landscapers and custom builders had the chance to catch-up with colleagues and suppliers at the second annual Gib-San Pools Educational Expo on February 15th at the Boulevard Club, Toronto. Attendees absorbed the latest information on pool construction materials and techniques, as well as the details about digital remote control operations technology which makes operating your pool as simple as flipping channels on your TV. The smart pool is here and now your custom home architect and builder knows that Gib-San can make it a reality.
Pool awards - Gib-San won 12 awards in February at the "Art of Water" awards held by Pool and Spa Marketing, in recognition for creative pool building.

Salt water chlorine generator for your pool
More and more pools are being converted to what some refer to as “salt water pools.” A low level of salt is introduced into the water at levels lower than in your tears. The formula for salt is NaCL2 – or one part sodium and two parts chloride. As the water passes through a purification system, it releases chlorine to make it available as a disinfectant in your pool. Once the chlorine’s purification work is done, it converts back into salt and the process continues again. The side benefits of this system are that your pool water may be softer - salt is what is you use in home soft water systems. You also no longer have to carry, store or add chlorine. Just set the dial and a monitor tells you if the generator needs adjusting. For more information, contact your service or retail contact at Gib-San.
Swim-in-place pools for exercise - even in the smallest of yards...
Now you can swim lengths even in the smallest of yards with a custom swim-in-place pool. These attractive pools might look like a small plunge pool, but in fact come equipped with powerful jets that produce a current you can swim against. Or if you just want to relax … turn down the volume a little and enjoy a massage. Ask our pool experts about this solution for a small back yard.

Come by to see our new store at 100 The East Mall - we are anxious to show it off. The much larger space gives us room to display a full line-up of Jacuzzi hot tubs, BBQs, and fireplace products – and to offer all the pool and hot tub accessories that make your backyard living more enjoyable. We are open year-round to serve you better - seven days a week in May and June – six days the rest of the year. Check our store hours on our website.

BBQ Recipe
Bacon-wrapped
scallop & salmon skewers |
8
Slices of bacon, about 1/2 lb (250g) cut into 3" lengths
1 lb (500g) skinless
salmon fillets, about 1" thick
1 lb sea scallops (500g)
lemon wedges
1/4 cup 60 ml) olive oil
2 tbsp fresh lemon
juice
2 tbsp chopped fresh sage or 1 tsp dried sage
1/2
tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
Blanching bacon
- boiling it briefly in water -removes some of its fat
and salt and tames its smoky flavor. Fill a saucepan two-thirds
full with water and bring to a boil over high heat using
your side burner. Add the bacon and blanch for 3 minutes.
Drain and rinse with cold water and pat dry with a paper
towel. Set aside. Run your fingers over the salmon fillets
to detect any errant bones; remove and discard any bones
you find. Cut the salmon into 1-inch cubes. If the small,
flat muscle, or "foot", is still attached to
the sides of each scallop, use your fingers or a small,
sharp knife to remove and discard it. Place the scallops
in a bowl with the salmon and add the olive oil, lemon
juice, sage, salt and pepper. Toss to combine and coat
the fish. Cover and refrigerate, tossing once or twice,
for about 30 minutes. Preheat the grill to medium. Remove
the scallops and salmon from the marinade; reserve the
marinade. Wrap a piece of bacon around each scallop and
each piece of salmon. Alternate the bacon-wrapped scallops
and salmon on 4 - 6 skewers. Arrange the skewers on the
rack. Grill, turning frequently and brushing two or three
times during the first 4 minutes of cooking with the reserved
marinade, until the bacon is lightly browned and sizzling
and the scallops and salmon are just opaque throughout,
about 8 minutes total. To serve, transfer to a warmed platter
and serve at once with lemon wedges Makes 4 - 6 servings

Test
your water regularly, especially after heavy bather loads or
rain storms that can affect its balance or during extended
periods of heat. If you notice the pool losing its sparkle – a
sure sign that something is not right – bring a water
sample in for a computerized test.
At the first of the season
you should always bring your water in for analysis because
we test for several additional elements than the three or four
items on the home test strips. Let your pool or hot tub run
for a couple of days after opening it before bringing the water
sample in. It is a good idea to do a full test at the end of
the season as well so the water chemistry is properly balanced
over the winter months.
