Welcome to the Gib-San SPLASH Newsletter!
Our SPLASH newsletter is just one way we keep in touch with our
clients to help you get more enjoyment from the pool, hot tub or
BBQ grill that you purchased from us. SPLASH includes maintenance tips
and information on products that will complement your lifestyle.
We hope you enjoy it.
We are proud of our company and we like sharing the latest developments at Gib-San that are related to our ongoing pursuit of quality and professional personnel development.
The
Robb Report magazine features Gib-San – The
Robb Report is a prestigious American publication that caters
to the international luxury lifestyle market. Gib-San was one
of three "top water feature designers to share their expertise on integrating water into the home landscape." The
two-page spread shows a pool that Gib-San created in the rocky
shore of an island in Georgian Bay. To read the full article visit our website.
Maritimes
sea-water pool written up in American trade journal - Gib-San
was featured in a story in Pool & Spa News magazine
called "Masters of Design." One thing that made
this project unusual was that the clients wanted the pool to
be filled with sea water. A vinyl lined pool was decided to be the best option, even with its enormous size (40 ft. x 80 ft. / 12m x 24m)
because of the level of salt in the water. "Being
on the shoreline, we made a real effort to blend it in with
the natural setting by using cedar for the sunbathing/diving
platform and a bridge that was installed for easier access
side to side. Cedar ages to the colour of driftwood." Read
the complete article on
our website.
David
Lindsay - New to Gib-San - We are pleased to introduce
David Lindsay who has recently joined Gib-San in sales. David is
a graduate of Carlton University where he studied political science.
He subsequently gained relevant experience with Pella
Windows and most recently the Permacon Group, a manufacturer of paving
stones and other masonry products. He is use to working alongside
architects, designers, builders and landscapers to help clients
plan their landscaping and home improvement projects. David will
be quickly submerged in our intensive pool training program including

construction specialists.
Going for a new Quality Systems category – While
we are proud of our achievement
of being first in the world in the pool industry
to attain ISO-9001:2000 Quality Management Systems certification,
we are not stopping there. Our first designation applies to the
following aspects of our business: design, sales, installation
and service of residential and commercial pools and hot tubs, and
the design and construction of landscape creations – all
areas of great importance to the satisfaction of our clients.
Even with the challenges and steep learning curve of this first
phase, we are already working on our next certification, OHSAS
18001, which covers all aspects of Health and Safety management.
It ensures that systems and controls are in place to manage our
workplaces so they are safe for our staff, customers and the public
at large.

BBQ Recipe - Steak Fajitas |
2 lb skirt steak (or flank)
12 or more flour tortillas, each 8-10 inches in diameter, warmed
2 red or yellow onions, cut crosswise into slices 1/2 inch thick
3 red or green bell peppers, seeded, deribbed and cut crosswise into rings 1/2 inch thick
tomato salsa optional, guacamole optional, sour cream optional
1/3 cup (3 fl oz) tequila
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
In a small bowl, whisk together the tequila, lime juice, vegetable oil, garlic, 1/2 tsp salt and pepper flakes. Place the meat in a shallow non-aluminum dish large enough for it to lie flat. Pour the tequila mixture over the steak and turn to coat both sides. Cover and refrigerate, turning occasionally, for at least 3 hours, or all day if you wish.
Coat the grid with cooking oil. Preheat the grill to medium. Remove the meat from the marinade and pat it dry with paper towels; reserve the marinade. Arrange the onion slices and bell pepper rings on the rack. Brush them with olive oil or vegetable oil and sprinkle with salt to taste. Grill for 3 minutes, then turn and again brush with oil. Grill until lightly browned, about 3 minutes longer. Transfer to a platter, separating the onion slices into rings; set aside while you cook the meat. Place the steak on the grid. Grill, turning and brushing with the reserved marinade every 2 minutes, until done to your liking, about 8 minutes total for rare or 10 minutes for medium. To serve, cut the steak into thin slices on the diagonal and across the grain. Mound the steak slices on the platter with the onions and peppers. At the table, place the sliced steak on the warm tortillas. Top with salsa, guacamole and/or sour cream if desired, then roll up or fold and eat out of hand. Makes 6 servings Enjoy!!

Pool Closing Tips … if you are closing your own pool:
Doing it right will prevent possible
freezing or chemical imbalance problems. Bring your water into
the Gib-San Pool & Hot Tub Centre for testing to ensure it
is chemically balanced to prevent staining and scaling over the
winter. Pick up our Winterizing Tips Sheet as a guide. We
have everything from the chemicals to the winter cover, water
bags, skimmer gizmos, expansion plugs, and pool antifreeze.
Tips:
- Filter - use Bio-Guard Filter Brite
- Winterizing chemicals
- Bio-Guard Hiber Shock - to remove summer waste
- Winterize II Algaecide - to prevent algae growth
- Bio-Guard Stain & Scale - to prevent staining
- Allow chemicals to circulate for a minimum of 12 hours
if possible before closing your pool.
- If you have a cartridge filter such as the System 3, do
not use a pressure washer to rinse the cartridge
or it will damage the filter fibres. If you like, Gib-San
Service will pick these up, clean them properly and return
them for only $129.95.
- Fill an extra three water bags and keep these on your
deck as spares in case other bags break. Your water won’t
be turned on in the middle of the winter, so this will
save time and aggravation.
Spa/Hot Tub Maintenance Tip The more people using the hot tub, the more attention you need to give it. Here are some rules of thumb:
| 1) Check the water regularly (2-3 times per week) |
- pH should be between 7.4 and 7.6
- Total alkalinity should be between 100 ppm and 140 ppm
- Sanitizer …. This test is dependent on what you
are using (chlorine, bromine, ozone)
|
2) Change the water 3 or 4 times a year … typically
late winter, mid-summer and late fall depending on usage pattern.
3) Filter should be cleaned every 2 weeks, washing it down
and using SpaGuard Filter Brite every other time. |
