We
are proud of our company and we like to share
what we are doing so you will have a better understanding of
our commitment to the industry and to you, our customers. Here
are some of the latest developments at Gib-San related to our
ongoing pursuit of quality and professional personnel development.
We are pleased to announce our achievement of ISO-9001:2000
Quality Management Systems registration. Gib-San
is the first residential pool company in the world to achieve
this. Our registration applies to the design, sales, installation
and service of residential and commercial pools and hot tubs,
and the design and construction of landscape creations.
Being ISO 9001 Registered means that Gib-San's quality management
system has been audited by an independent registration body, who
has declared that our system has met the demanding requirements
of the ISO 9001 standard and continues to do so through periodic
surveillance audits. Visit the special ISO section on our website
to learn more about ISO certification.
Gib-San wins international awards
Gib-San won the Gold Medal Award of Excellence at
the United States National Spa & Pool Institute's competition
for commercial pools (over 3001 sq. ft.) with its entry of the
pools complex built in St. Kitts, for the Marriott Resort & Casino.
This was quite an accomplishment - project managing and building
such a large water feature complex with Gib-San crews flying in
from our head office in Toronto.
Gib-San
won more than 20 other international awards at the 2004
Master Pools Guild competition in Tucson, as well as three
of the possible five Design Awards for creative hot tub installations
at Jacuzzi's International Hot Tub Competition Nassau, Bahamas.
We are continually measuring our quality against the best in
the world.
In
Canadian competition, Gib-San won 14 pool design awards in the 2004 awards competition held by the Pool & Hot Tub Council
of Canada. Gib-San joins Greater Toronto Home Builders Association. Gib-San
works closely with custom builders to provide pool and landscape
creations that complement their homes.
Gibbs
appointed Vice-Chairman of the Master Pools Guild -
Ed Gibbs, President of Gib-San will be on the board of directors
of the international Master Pools Guild for the next three years.
Gibbs will be chairman in 2006. This is the first Canadian
appointed to this position in seventeen years. The Master
Pools Guild is an international association of premier custom concrete
pool craftsmen. There is more information about the Guild on the
Gib-San website.
Peter
Friis, Senior Vice President of Gib-San was elected
to the board of the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada,
Toronto Chapter. In addition, Ed Gibbs continues on the board
this year as Past-President. The association was
formerly known as the National Spa & Pool Institute.
Gib-San encourages its employees to participate on association
committees to support the industry.
Our
training classroom is busy every spring reviewing the
latest service and construction techniques with our crews. Over
the winter, six employees completed an advanced hydraulics course
given by Sta-Rite University, our equipment supplier, and others
attended training run by the international
Master Pools Guild and the industry association. Training
is a key investment we make with all our employees.

... for Pools:
Add water
features when renovating
You can
add beauty and music to any pool. The
continuous glass-like rod of water shown in the picture pierces the water
almost splash free adding intrigue into any pool setting. It is called a
Laminar water feature by Crystal Fountain. While it is easier to
include water features when the pool is being built, fountains, overflowing
spas or cascading water falls are very possible to add in a renovation
and can have tremendous impact. Tell us your dream and we will make
it reality.

Missing
steps in your pool?
Over
twenty years ago, the majority of vinyl lined pools were built
with ladders instead of steps. That shortcoming can be easily
remedied now with your choice of walk-in steps or swim-in steps.
There are different shapes of steps and colours to choose from
- and even larger steps and "buddy seats" for lounging
with massage jets to relax you. And if someone in your family
is physically challenged or unsteady on their feet, support railings
can be added to assist in entering and exiting of the pool.
Give
us a call and our renovation experts will give you ideas and
estimates for bringing your pool into the 21st century with steps,
in-pool lighting and other enhancing features.
...for Hot Tubs:
Experience "Being" aromatherapy
Escape
in your hot tub to a truly all-sensory experience with natural
plant essence aromas. Awaken yourself and enhance your energies
with the many aromas of these aromatherapy products.
Awaken -
tangerine and grapefruit from China; Enlighten -
Asian lemon, Mediterranean cypress, North American juniper berry
and Asian basil; Reflect - lavender as per ancient
Egyptians and geranium from South Africa; Release -
chamomile from southern Europe and clay sage from the Mediterranean; Uplift -
Asian green tea and West Indies lime.

Want
to really relax this summer? Why not book Gib-San to open and maintain your pool or hot tub
all season? Call 416-749 4361 ext. 232 or e-mail us at service@gibsanpools.com
Book
your Pool/Hot Tub opening online in
the CLUBHOUSE section of our website. The CLUBHOUSE is
free but only available to Gib-San pool owners. To gain your
access code register
here. It contains lots of information on operating and maintaining
your pool and hot tub and you can even order chemicals online.
If opening the pool yourself…
If
you are new to pool operations – plan
on attending our summerizing seminar May 11th for a detailed
overview of how to operate and maintain your pool. Even seasoned
pool owners will benefit from a quick review and an update on what is new.
If you open your pool every year – come
by the Gib-San Pool & Hot Tub Centre first for opening chemicals
and a quick refresher on any details you might have forgotten.
Bring your water for testing after you have given your pool an
initial shock and algaecide treatment and let it run for a couple
of days so we can advise you on the correct water balance.
Pool heater maintenance – Every
spring you should clean dirt and spider webs from the inside
of the heater. The single most important maintenance consideration
for a heater, though, is maintaining proper water balance so
you avoid corrosion of the heat-exchange element.
Pool Maintenance Tips
Swimming pool maintenance doesn't have to be difficult, but it is extremely important to maintain good water quality. The more people using the pool and the warmer the water’s temperature, the more attention you need to give it. Here are some rules of thumb:
- Check the water regularly (2-3 times per week) using AquaCheck test strips. If you are still using the two bottle drop test kits, we would suggest changing to test strips for more accurate results.
- Bring a water sample into Gib-San’s Pool & Hot Tub Centre at the beginning, middle and end of the season for a FREE comprehensive water analysis.
- pH should be between 7.4 and 7.6.
- Total alkalinity should be between 100 ppm and 140 ppm.
- Sanitizer should be kept in your sanitizer’s ‘ideal’ range using your test kit. Consult with us to find out what the optimal level should be based on the type of sanitizer you use.
In chlorine pools, a product known as “Stabalizer 100” will reduce the amount of chlorine your pool consumes.
- Sand filters should be backwashed once per week or when the pressure gauge increases by 10psi. Other filters should be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s directions.
