We are proud of our company and we like to share what we are doing
so that you will have a better understanding of our commitment to the industry and to you, our customers, through our continued professional development.
Gibbs - President of the National Spa & Pool Institute, Toronto Chapter – For the past year Ed Gibbs, President of Gib-San, has been President of the Toronto Chapter of this industry association. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in increasing the association's commitment to education and training relevance within the swimming pool and spa industry. Gib-San has had a long history of contributing to the industry by serving on boards and committees. This commitment extends back to 1965 when Ed Gibbs Sr. was President of the original Ontario Pool Association.
Management Training - by Franklin Covey Programs – We believe that investing in our people is one of the best business investments we can make. Our senior staff have embarked on a series of training sessions aimed at making them better managers and more enriched individuals with an appreciation of the necessity of balance in life. An underlying theme of these programs expressed in terms of our specific business is: we are not just building a pool - we are building
relationships. At Gib-San we truly believe this and build our service programs around that concept.
Project Management Courses – Our production management group has just completed Project Management training also run by the Franklin Covey Group. This is a critical aspect of customer service and on-time delivery, and we are committed to continually striving to be the best in this area.
ISO Certification is getting closer – We are on track to becoming the first dedicated pool and spa company in North America to achieve ISO certification. “ISO” stands for International Standards Organization which is a
system used by all major companies around the world to establish professional operating standards.

Self-locking gates – We often take fence gates for granted, but they should be checked at least twice a year. As well as being a by-law, ensuring all gates have the proper self-locking hardware that is in good working condition is just good pool safety. If a gate is dragging the lock may not have a chance to engage. Screws often loosen from the constant closing action. Add "gate closure" to your Opening and Closing Checklists.

... for Pools:
Add
an Automatic Cover to your pool … enjoy
both peace of mind and a warmer pool. This cover is both
a safety cover and a solar blanket. It reduces heat loss
and chemical consumption by slowing down evaporation.

are in control of pool opening times with a key lock activation
system.

so the cover track and cover housing are recessed to maintain
the beauty of your pool setting.

1 mango, peeled & cubed
1 cup (240 ml) pineapple, peeled & cubed
6 bamboo or metal skewers
salt & pepper to taste
2 tbsp (30 ml) sesame seeds
1/4 cup (60 ml) Hoi Sin sauce
Marinade
1 cup (240 ml) soy sauce
1/2 cup (120 ml) honey
1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
1/4 cup (60ml) molasses
1/4 cup (60ml) brown sugar
1/4 cup (60ml) medium dry sherry
2 tbsp (30ml) sesame oil
4 tsp (20ml) garlic, chopped
2 tsp (10ml) fresh ginger, chopped
In a medium bowl, combine marinade ingredients. Mix well. Add cubed chicken and marinate refrigerated for 2 hours. Remove chicken from marinade. Reserve half the marinade for basting chicken while it cooks. Pour remaining marinade into a small saucepan and bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until thickened. Set aside. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Thread chicken cubes onto skewers, alternating with mango and pineapple. Season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low. Lightly oil grid. Pool Closing Tips … if closing your own pool:
If you are closing your own pool, doing it right will prevent possible freezing or chemical imbalance problems. Test your water before closing your pool to ensure it is chemically balanced to prevent staining and scaling over the winter. Allow chemicals to circulate for a minimum of 12 hours if possible before closing your pool.
Bring your water into the Gib-San Pool & Spa Centre for free water testing and pick up a Winterizing Tips Sheet that details the process and what you'll need to do it properly. We have everything from the chemicals to the winter cover, water bags, skimmer gizmos, expansion plugs, pool antifreeze, and the tools to help you do each step correctly.
Filters should be cleaned when closing. If you have a cartridge filter such as the System 3,
use a filter cleaner and high-power sprayer to rinse the cartridge(s).
Be careful not to use too much pressure or you may damage the fibers
of the filter. If you like, Gib-San Service will pick these up, clean them properly and return them for only $129.95.
- Have
your water professionally tested – we are at 5324 Dundas Street West.
- Clean the
pool filter - use Bio-Guard Filter Brite.
Add winterizing chemicals:
- Bio-Guard Hiber Shock - to remove summer waste.
- Winterize II Algaecide - to prevent algae growth.
- Bio-Guard Stain & Scale - to prevent staining.
Spa/Hot Tub Maintenance Tip
Hot tub maintenance doesn't have to be difficult but it is
extremely important to maintain good water quality. The more people using the hot tub, the more attention you need to give it. Here are some rules of thumb:
- Check the water
regularly (2-3 times per week). Check it a few hours before and after heavy
use (using AquaCheck test strips).
- pH should be between 7.4 and 7.6.
- Total
Alkalinity should be between 100ppm and 140 ppm.
- Sanitizer …. This test is dependent on what you are using (chlorine, bromine, ozone …)
- Change the water 3 or 4 times a year … typically late winter, mid-summer and late fall depending on usage pattern. We can test the water to tell you if it should be changed based on the test results.
- Filter should be cleaned every 2 weeks, washing it down and using SpaGuard Filter Brite every other time.
